Laat of te Laat? Ouderdom in de laat Latijnse Elegieën van Maximianus (6e eeuw n.Chr.)

This article focuses on the poetry of Maximianus, a late Latin author whose work was published around 6th century AD. His corpus is to be situated within genre elegy; typically, these are written by young and virile male poet, dedicated woman he loves who dominates his life. However, six elegies Maximianus (686 lines in total) unique whole literature since they do not have love youth as central subject. They explicitly put motif old age foreground. By combining close reading with methodological framework “ageing studies”, this proposes an analysis some crucial passages taken from opening poem corpus, order show how interacts topic boundaries elegy.
